thirteen point one

December 5, 2011

Y’all. I cannot believe I did it! I ran the Dallas White Rock Half Marathon!

It was freezing cold {43 degrees} and raining. POURING, actually.

But I did it!!!!!!!!!

I honestly can’t try to explain the entire experience to you. I never really knew how hard it was going to be, and even harder with the horrid weather conditions. I pulled my strength and will from somewhere deep, y’all. It was so emotional!

This will sound silly to many of you, but I cried throughout the race. I cried A LOT. I cried at the starting line. I cried when I saw a guy with NO LEGS {just prosthetics} and NO ARMS running the half. I cried when I saw a little girl about Chloe’s age watching the race with a sign that said “Run, Mama, Run!!” I cried when I heard the ding on my phone from sweet texts and Facebook comments. Oh my word. I was amazed at all the amazing people who came out to support us runners even in the rain and cold. Of course, they were ALL holding Starbucks and had umbrellas and I was so jealous! But, it was so great to have people {strangers!} cheering me on. All of those things just did me in for most of the run. People probably thought I was crazy!

Despite my emotions, the actual running went {surprisingly} well. I’m thinking that’s what they call adrenaline. The rain was heavy in certain miles, and by mile 5 my shoes and socks were sloshing with every. single. step. When I hit 8 miles, I couldn’t believe I only had 5 more to go. It really went so fast. By mile 9, I was ready to give it my all and try to get my time under 2 hours. I missed it by less than two minutes!!! {And, I had to stop and tie a shoe- TWICE. If I hadn’t stopped, I would have been very close to my goal!}

I am just so happy that I did it. It was one of the biggest moments of my life. I can’t imagine at this point running a full marathon…13.1 pretty much did me in. But the four months of training…all those morning runs… they were completely worth it, and I most definitely will do it again.

But not any time soon! ;)

      Thanks Cortney! You are too sweet. I am still emotional about it all today- anytime I talk about it I get tears in my eyes! I’m a crazy person for sure.
